U.S. President “Donald Trump” indicated that he may demand financial compensation of $230 million from the Department of Justice, in response to the investigations that targeted him in recent years.

The “New York Times” revealed that “Trump” has submitted formal requests for financial compensation from the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, for the damages he suffered as a result of the series of investigations that affected his campaigns and political activities.

In an interview with “CNN,” “Trump” said, “It may be, I don’t know the numbers, all I know is they owe me a lot of money, but I’m not looking for the money, I’ll give it to charity or something like that.”

According to the newspaper, the ministry is likely to eventually agree to a financial settlement decided by its senior officials, most of whom were previously lawyers or legal advisors close to “Trump” or his political team, which the newspaper considered “a unique precedent in American history” and “the most prominent example of conflicts of ethical interests within the Department of Justice.”

“Trump” had submitted administrative complaints in two stages in preparation for resorting to the judiciary, the first in late 2023 and related to what he described as “alleged violations of his rights” during the Russian interference investigations in the 2016 elections, and the second in the summer of 2024 and related to the search of his residence in “Mar-a-Lago” in 2022 for classified documents.

The complaints accuse the Department of Justice of “vexatious litigation” when it charged “Trump” with “mishandling sensitive records after leaving the White House.”

Ethics professor at the University of Vas, “Bennett Gershman,” described “Trump’s” lawsuit as “a farce and a serious ethical conflict,” considering that the president is suing institutions whose leaders he appointed.

“Trump” himself had acknowledged last week from the Oval Office, in the presence of the Minister of Justice “Pam Bondi” and the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation “Catch Patel,” that there was a “confusion” in the case, saying, “I had a lawsuit going well, and when I became president, I said: I’m kind of suing myself, I don’t know how I can settle the lawsuit, it seems bad.”

Reports indicate that administrative complaints are not considered lawsuits yet, but are submitted to the Department of Justice to examine the possibility of settling them without resorting to federal courts. If the ministry rejects the demands or refrains from taking action on them, then “Trump” can file a lawsuit before the judiciary.

However, informed sources stated that the file is expected to be settled internally, because “Trump” is currently negotiating with employees affiliated with him within the ministry to settle the case.
