At dawn on Wednesday, Israel released six Palestinian youths who had been arrested at dawn on Tuesday from the village of Burqin, west of Jenin, after a 24-hour detention.
According to their testimonies, the youths were beaten and tortured during the detention period, and their clothes were torn.
In a video recording taken inside a medical center in Jenin, the six young men appeared in a state of severe exhaustion, and clear signs of beatings and torture appeared on their bodies, in addition to their torn clothes, and signs of fear and exhaustion were evident on their faces.
“Fidaa Salama,” one of the released young men and displaced from the Jenin refugee camp, recounted the details of what happened to them, explaining that they were arrested at dawn on Tuesday from their homes in the village of Burqin, and were transferred to an Israeli military barracks inside the camp, where they were detained all night in conditions he described as “harsh and humiliating.”
“Salama” stated that the soldiers stripped them of their clothes, assaulted them with severe beatings, verbal abuse and death threats, before releasing them at dawn without any formal charges.
It is noteworthy that all six young men are displaced from the Jenin camp, after their forced displacement following the repeated Israeli military operations since the beginning of this year, and recently took refuge in the village of Burqin, where they were arrested.
Israel is currently holding more than 10,000 Palestinians, including women and children, who are languishing in Israeli prisons in conditions that human rights organizations have described as characterized by “physical torture and systematic medical neglect.”
The West Bank is witnessing an unprecedented escalation in Israeli attacks since the outbreak of the war on the Gaza Strip, which since the beginning of the war has resulted in the death of more than 1,056 people and the injury of about 10,000 others, in addition to the arrest of more than 20,000 Palestinians, including about 1,600 children.
