
The Minister of Interior and Municipalities received the UN Coordinator and the two deputies, and ways of cooperation and support for elections and developmental and service files of interest to Tripoli and the southern suburb were discussed.
Within the framework of his series of periodic meetings, His Excellency the Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Professor Ahmed El Haggar, received today in his office Her Excellency the UN Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Ms. Joanna Wronecka, accompanied by the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Lebanon, Ms. Melanie Hauenstein. The meeting included an in-depth review of the prospects for joint cooperation, with a focus on the potential support that the UN program can provide, especially with regard to the ongoing preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
In a related context, Minister El Haggar met with His Excellency Deputy Karim Kabbara, during which this fruitful meeting discussed a number of developmental and service files that the city of Tripoli pays special attention to.
Following the meeting, Deputy Kabbara issued a press statement in which he explained that the discussions with the Minister of Interior focused on the general conditions in the city of Tripoli, most notably the sensitive security situation, in addition to a number of other issues directly related to the responsibilities of the Ministry of Interior.
In his statement, Deputy Kabbara affirmed that the discussion dealt with ways and mechanisms to enhance security and stability in the city, while emphasizing the need for diligent follow-up of service and administrative files that fall within the Ministry’s jurisdiction. Kabbara praised the strenuous efforts made by His Excellency the Minister to support stability in Tripoli and other Lebanese regions, stressing the importance of continuous coordination to address the various challenges facing the city.
Later in the day, Minister El Haggar also received His Excellency Deputy Amin Shari, accompanied by a high-level delegation from the Union of Municipalities of the Southern Suburb, where a range of municipal and service affairs of interest to the region were discussed.
