Widespread Outage in Amazon Cloud Services Causes Problems Accessing Global Sites and Applications.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud arm of the American group Amazon, announced on its system status and maintenance website that it has been experiencing a widespread outage for hours, causing connection problems affecting a number of prominent global sites and applications, including Amazon, Snapchat, and Fortnite.

The official update stated: “We are confirming elevated error rates for requests to the DynamoDB database,” a core database relied upon by many website and electronic game applications.

Although AWS did not explicitly reveal the cause of the outage, it indicated at 09:27 GMT that it had observed “significant indications of gradual service recovery” after taking “initial actions to address the issue.”

Amazon Web Services is one of the largest cloud computing platforms in the world, providing companies with on-demand data storage, processing, and artificial intelligence services.

According to Downdetector, a website specializing in monitoring technical outages, users of dozens of websites, applications, and social networks experienced difficulty accessing their services on Monday morning.

Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity, confirmed in a post on the “X” platform that the company’s AI service is currently unavailable, explaining that the outage is related to the AWS crisis and that work is underway to restore it.

The outage also affected access to Airbnb, Instagram, the Steam gaming platform, Roblox, and Brawl Stars, as well as impacting major telecommunications companies, including the French “Orange,” “Bouygues Telecom,” and “SFR.”
