"نتائج واعدة".. اختبار دم جديد يكشف السرطان قبل ظهور الأعراض

A large study in the United States and Canada, which included more than 23,000 participants, revealed a new blood test known as Galleri that is able to detect more than 50 types of cancer, even in people who do not show any symptoms in the early stages of the disease.

According to the British Sky News website, the test depends on analyzing the DNA released by cancer cells in the bloodstream, which allows for the possibility of monitoring tumors before they develop and reach advanced stages.

The results of the study showed that 61.6 percent of the participants whose analysis showed a “sign of cancer” were actually confirmed to have the disease, while the accuracy of the test in ruling out infection reached 99.6 percent, and it was able to identify 92 percent of the organ or tissue in which the cancer originated.

Grail, the company that developed the test, explained that these results are seven times greater than those achieved by traditional screening programs combined, indicating that the new technology may bring about a major shift in early cancer detection.

But some researchers have warned that the test may give false positive results in about half of the cases in which the presence of cancer is detected, stressing the need to conduct further studies to evaluate its effectiveness and its impact on mortality rates.

The NHS Galleri trial on the effectiveness of the test in screening people without symptoms is expected to be published next year.
