“أمريكا تتأهب لموجة عارمة ضد ترامب: لا مكان للملكية!”

Widespread demonstrations in America rejecting Trump’s policies

Millions of Americans are expected to participate today, Saturday, in a wide wave of marches extending from New York to San Francisco, in rejection of the policies of President Donald Trump, as part of a broad national mobilization called for by the “No Kings” movement, in a direct message saying that “the United States is not a kingdom, and absolute power will not be handed over to one president.”

The movement announced the organization of more than 2,700 demonstrations in major cities and small towns, including a stand near Trump’s residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, where he is spending the weekend. Organizers expect this mobilization to turn into one of the largest waves of popular protest since the Republican returned to the White House.

Americans recall the scene of mid-June, when millions came out on the first day of mobilization organized by the movement itself, in the largest protest since he took power. At that time, Trump celebrated his 79th birthday with a huge military parade in the streets of Washington, DC.

Trump, who in June had threatened to respond to protesters with “very, very strong force,” commented this week on Fox News, saying, “They call me a king. I’m not a king.” But leaders in the Republican Party escalated their rhetoric, going so far as to liken the marches to “terrorism.”

Mike Johnson, the Republican leader in the House of Representatives, described the protests as “a mobilization of hatred against America,” claiming that the marches would witness the presence of “supporters of Hamas and Antifa,” the movement that was recently classified as a “terrorist organization” by decision of the Trump administration.

As for Republican Representative Tom Emmer, he accused the Democrats of having “surrendered to the terrorist wing within their party,” to which Maryland Democratic Representative Glen Ivey responded by saying: “What is happening is not extremism, but rather a moment that will determine the future of America.”

Deidre Schaeffling, an official with the civil rights organization ACLU, which is co-organizing the marches, said: “We will not allow ourselves to be silenced in the face of the abuse of power by Trump and his allies.”

Robert De Niro, the Hollywood star, also called on Americans to “rise up peacefully against what he described as ‘King Donald Trump’.”

Since his return to power in January, Trump has intensified the issuance of orders that his opponents described as “a direct attack on state institutions and the balance of the democratic system,” while using the National Guard and federal force in cities known for their Democratic loyalty under the pretext of combating immigration and crime.

Rallies are being held today in Washington and Chicago, where National Guard forces have been deployed, in addition to other cities such as Boston and New Orleans, while Canadian cities such as Toronto, Vancouver, and Ottawa have announced their joining of the solidarity movement.
