Health experts have confirmed that pumpkin seed oil can help stop hair loss and enhance hair density and growth.
The “Very Well Health” website quoted Dr. Sandy Wasif, who works as an assistant professor in the Department of Pathology and Medicine at Rutgers University in the United States, as saying, “Studies have shown that pumpkin seed oil can help prevent hair loss and promote hair growth.”
Pumpkin seed oil reduces the production of the hormone dihydrotestosterone, which is known to affect hair follicles and thin them.
Wasif explained that suppressing the production of this hormone can stop hair loss and promote hair growth.
The oil also contains other ingredients that are beneficial for hair health.
Dr. Shari Lipner, a specialist in dermatology at Cornell University College of Medicine, said that pumpkin oil is rich in vitamin E, omega-3, and linoleic acid, and has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
She pointed out that an experiment in which 76 men suffering from hair loss participated, some of whom took pumpkin seed oil capsules and others dummy capsules, revealed a significant increase in hair growth and higher satisfaction in the group that used the oil.
But pumpkin oil is not suitable for everyone, and people who suffer from an allergy to pumpkin or similar plants are advised to consult a doctor before trying it.
Lipner explained that some people who take pumpkin seed oil may suffer from serious allergic reactions, or interactions with the medications they are taking, which may pose a danger to them.
Pumpkin seed oil can also cause stomach disorders, and those who suffer from skin diseases are advised to be careful before using it.
The effect of pumpkin seed oil varies from one person to another. According to Wasif: “It can be useful in cases of mild or early hair loss, but people who suffer from advanced hair loss require special medications.”
Experts advise consulting a doctor if you notice hair loss, to accurately diagnose the condition and provide appropriate prescriptions.
