
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) announced in a statement that it “organized, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, the municipality of Anjar, and the government of South Korea, a field visit to the town of Anjar in the Bekaa, to celebrate the successful conclusion of the project to strengthen the resilience of refugees and host communities.”
She pointed out that “the Ministry of Agriculture and the FAO implemented this project, which aims to improve livelihoods, enhance environmental sustainability, and enhance preparedness to confront disasters.”
During the tour, the delegation inspected the Multi-Hazard Response Unit, which is a municipal truck equipped with tools to deal with forest fires and floods. They also visited the solar water pumping system, which includes an electrical control room and a water pump that was established with funding from the South Korean government. The project also provided the municipality of Anjar with basic tools and awareness programs to prevent forest fires and reduce flood risks, which contributed to enhancing the local community’s ability to confront environmental challenges.
The project also organized specialized training courses on climate-smart agriculture, natural hazard prevention and management, and the development of local cooperatives, enabling communities to acquire sustainable skills and practices that enhance their long-term resilience. (National Agency)
